Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge Changes Christmas Program

Baton Rouge, LA – For numerous years, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge (CCDBR) has worked with various organizations, donors and churches on providing Christmas gifts to families in need. This year, with the program titled A Season of Hope, we are accepting monetary donations to help provide rent and utilities assistance to eligible clients to keep a roof over their heads and the lights on.

“For over a year, Catholic Charities hasn’t received funding for rental or utility assistance, which is our most requested service,” said Stephanie Sterling, CCDBR executive director. “At the same time, many families in need are struggling to make ends meet. We are hoping to fill that gap this Christmas season.”

Catholic Charities is now accepting donations through December 19.

CCDBR is hosting a collection day on Friday, November 21 from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Catholic Charities office at 1900 S. Acadian Thruway in Baton Rouge. The agency will be collecting monetary donations only on this day.

“Stop by the office on November 21, to drop off your monetary donation, visit with Santa, and sip some hot chocolate,” Sterling said. “Please note that November 21, is a day Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge will be collecting monetary donations only from donors, not distributing to clients. The list to receive rental and utility assistance is closed and we are not able to take additional requests for assistance at this time.”

“Many wonderful agencies in our community are already doing great work with Christmas gift-giving for children and families,” Sterling said. “Rather than duplicate those efforts, we want to focus on collecting monetary donations for what our clients need most: keeping a roof over their heads and electricity on through the season and beyond.”

If you cannot make it to the office on November 21, CCDBR is also accepting online donations at CatholicCharitiesBR.org or click here.
